The things we do when we think no one is watching

Mommy learns the importance of commas

You really have to be careful about what you say to little ones.  During dinner at home one night, Rowan threw his spoon and Mommy tried to chide him.  What she said was “Rowan, not nice.”  What Rowan heard was “Rowan not nice.”  So the wailing started and Mommy had to apologize and emphasize that Rowan IS nice and that everything was still okay.  Mommy will try to put herself in his shoes the next time punctuation becomes vital.

First parent-teacher conference

The poor kid is only 22mos old and we’ve already had our annual parent-teacher conference at his school.  Rowan is apparently “very sweet, agreeable and lovable.”  We never would have guessed!

One teacher said that sometimes when she puts the toddlers down for their nap, she’ll suddenly hear a-b-c-d-e-f-g and discover Rowan singing himself to sleep.  And he’s apparently composing his own songs.  The ‘me Me ME’ melody isn’t something they do at school, but he just suddenly started doing it at home.  Especially cute was the ‘shelf, Shelf, SHELF, zebra, Zebra, ZEBRA’ song.  Unfortunately Mommy hasn’t been able to upload that video.

Rowan has a strong understanding of language already.  He doesn’t quite know what the difference is, but he knows that eating and eaten mean something different about food.  And he makes up his own names for things, like sticking a flower on top of a lego truck and calling it flowertruck.  Who needs tv when you have something so fascinating to watch right in front of you!
