And healthy too

15 months, 1 day! And you are still the most amazing little creature. Rowan had his well-baby checkup yesterday, and he came in at a healthy 26.5 lbs, 33.5 inches. That puts him in the 75th percentile for weight, 95th for height. And still a tiny head on top. But as the doctor said, he’s proportional and his head doesn’t look small on him.

I think he has memories of the previous doctor’s visit because as soon as the nurse took a step towards him, he started wailing even though I was still holding him. Not a normal reaction from him. And she didn’t even have the shots in hand yet! But an MMR and chicken pox vaccine later, and Rowan went home to a quick grilled cheese and banana dinner (the appointment ran very late so there wasn’t much time to make dinner) and straight to bed. Daddy is home with him today in case Rowan gets sick from the shots, and he was still asleep when mommy left for work. But Daddy was kind enough to send a video of him waking up so that she wouldn’t miss him too much.

And speaking of dinner, the other day we put in front of Rowan some panko-crusted chicken from a nice organic restaurant, sweet potato fries, sliced apples, and some of mommy’s spinach souffle. And he actively selected the souffle over everything else! Mommy was so proud that her cooking took first place. Until she remembered that Rowan won’t touch her pancakes. But he also prefers steamed broccoli over crackers, and peaches above everything else. He’s teaching us how to eat a better diet.

I’m also constantly struck by how much he understands. Somewhere along the line he picked up the word hair even though it’s not something we’ve actively gone over with him. And he can recognize any kind of bus, at any distance. He’s also figured that he doesn’t have to drop a ball into the ladybug to get her to dance, that he can just reach inside and tap the little spot under her wing. He’s clearly taking in more than we realize. But he still insists his nose is somewhere on his cheek. And he only has one ear.
