Long weekend

By Mommy

Hooray for national holidays!  We got a much-needed 4-day weekend this July 4th, and although we didn’t go to any fireworks, Rowan did make some of his own.  It began with his first self-inflicted boo boo — slamming his fingers when he closed his new Curious George lunch box — which led to a prolonged cry (for Rowan) that led to a long cuddle in Mommy’s lap.  Only a new book could coax him off.

Then there was a bbq where Rowan decided he very much likes watermelon.  Small head + giant fruit = perfect combination.  It was during the watermelon discovery stage that we found out Rowan actually has 8 teeth now, four on top, four on the bottom.  So we’ve been expanding his food repertoire, including saag paneer (loved it), garlic mashed potatoes (ditto), and curried eggplant (not so much).  Despite all this eating, he is starting to lose his baby fat.  His extra chins have almost completely receded, and those drumsticks of his are turning into little thighs.  Our baby isn’t anymore!

But we have plenty of pics to remember him by.  Oh, and we are happy to report that the separation anxiety stage seems to have passed.  It only lasted two weeks, but we weren’t used to having an insecure baby and Rowan wasn’t used to feeling needy.  Now he’s back to being independent and comfortable in his own skin.  Whew!

He spent 10 minutes trying to get into Mommy’s and another 10 trying to get into his own.  Not there yet, but he gets an A for effort.
