Wow, so much has happened this past week, where to start it all. . . and Mommy can’t type fast enough to get it from her head onto the page.
Last weekend Rowan went to his first Hanukkah party, Paula’s annual shindig, which he enjoyed so much that he skipped two of his naps, he didn’t want to miss anything. He also tried to have his first latka, but luckily Mommy’s arms are still longer than his.
He got to hang out with Kathleen who was surprised at how much he’s grown but also by how calm he tends to be. Not always, but enough of the time that it’s a fair generalization about him. Kathleen was worried that the Eeyore she gave him might be lonely, but I assured her he’s in good company with the gorilla, the elephant, and Sophie the giraffe. I also told her about the first time I let Rowan play with Eeyore. After Rowan was done, I picked up Eeyore and was like “why is this stuffed donkey peeing on me?!” Only to realize that Rowan had slurped Eeyore’s tail so much that his rump was thoroughly soaked.
Speaking of which, the drool has grown exponentially. I noticed that Rowan was also gumming things more, even Mommy’s shirt and pants, and toes if she let him. So when we were going to Paula’s, I let him gnaw on my finger . . . and felt sharp little points! Our little baby isn’t a little baby anymore!! The tiny teeth are just about to break the surface. Mommy and Daddy are heartbroken, but they are accepting the inevitable. And will be much relieved when they can stop changing bibs every hour.
Rowan has also started “playing” his first video game. Or at least he swats at the ipad when it’s on. And the other day I was playing music on it and left it standing with the screen about two feet away but in his line of sight. He was playing with another toy and would look up at the ipad’s lit screen every few seconds. When the highly reflective screen went black, though, he took an intense interest in it, staring at it and smiling away. It was then that I realized he really does know himself in the mirror since he totally ignores his reflection but always looks at other faces in it. But with the ipad, he was seeing a very dark gray reflection of himself, which he didn’t recognize as himself, and he was trying to get it to smile, and when it smiled back at him, he would laugh and smile even more! Those little brain cells really have been busy all this time!
