Two legs, two shots, just one thumb

By Mommy

It’s that time again.  Rowan had to go for his latest round of vaccinations.  One in each leg, a howl with each, and three seconds later completely distracted by the painting of horses in the exam room.  Thank goodness for short attention spans, at least for now.

The rest of the well baby visit went well.  He’s grown an inch, to 28, and came in at 19lbs 4oz.  Still in the 90th percentile for height, but now a svelte 75th for weight.  Head is still a diminutive 25th but holding steady.

Except for not rolling over, he’s pretty much where he should be.  His t-rex arms are still pretty useless, but his legs are strong and he can almost stand on them.  He can sit up unaided for a few seconds at a time, and he should spend most of his awake time in that position, which he did almost all of today.

On the way home from the doctor’s office we stopped at a bookstore for coffee and mommy read a magazine while Rowan napped.  When he woke up earlier than expected, he got to read how Saturn’s moon Titan may have formed and see pictures of galaxies and pteradactyls.  The former didn’t interest him, but the flying creatures looked yummy enough to try to lick.

After that it was home for an entire half banana and music time.  Then off to Gymboree where several people commented that Rowan managed to get through last Tuesday’s tummy time without a grumble.  Unfortunately that wasn’t the case today, but he did enjoy the bubbles and rainmaker.  His ability to track things is actually quite good, which goes well with his current favorite game, peek-a-boo.

I took Rowan to class in the front carrier, and about two minutes out of Gymboree I felt his head flop down in sleep — it was indeed an eventful day.  But back in the crib that nap didn’t last long, so more toy time, singing, and apparently a new favorite book — It’s a Small World.  Tasty as well as fun to look at!  But by then he was truly pooped from all that activity, so he went to bed well before Daddy came home.  But Daddy did give him his 8:30 sleep-feeding ,after which he settled into a quiet chat with his thumb and is now happily asleep, perhaps dreaming of bubbles and pteradactyls flying through the air.
